A Few of My Favorite Things: iPhone Apps

I can admit that I am completely obsessed with my iPhone.  When Sam first got his iPhone a few years ago, I was jealous of how much time he spent adjusting, referring to, and absorbed in his new toy; now, I’m fully converted to the ways of the iPhone.  I’ve inherited Sam’s phones each time there’s a new upgrade, and I don’t know how I would function without it anymore.

These are a few of the (free) apps I’m currently obsessed with:

Tiny Worlds

I love them all– Tiny Pets, Tiny Village, and DinerTown Zoo.  I check up on my little creatures throughout the day, feeding them, buying new buildings or decorations, collecting money, and expanding.  Yes, obsessed would be an accurate word.

Instagram and Diptik

I don’t know what is so captivating about seeing small captured moments of other people’s lives, or documenting my own for the world to see, but it’s addicting.  What did I eat for breakfast?  What did I wear today?  Where did I go?  Who did I see?

If I can take a picture to share with you, I will.  If I can take a few, I’ll make a collage in Diptik before giving it a vintage wash in Instagram and publicizing it.

Sam makes fun of me for all the mundane details that I share through Instagram, but I’ve actually come to view those little details as worth noting, maybe even more important than the big things… something exciting may not happen every day, but that doesn’t mean I don’t find joy in a delicious meal or a view of the bay on the top of a hill.

I use my iPhone’s camera so often that it’s almost the sole source of pics for this blog, and any collage of photos is created using the Diptic app.

Diner Town Dashes

Wedding Dash, Hotel Dash, Soap Dash, and the original–Diner Dash.  Hours of tapping fingers have paid off–I’m a pro!

Word Games… with Friends

Words with Friends is like Scrabble, but games can last days or weeks depending on how often people take their turns.

Hanging with Friends is similar, but it’s the Hangman edition.

Scramble with Friends is the newest, similar to Boggle… all word games I’ve always loved playing, but now the game is portable and you can play with friends from across the country!  I lose more games than I win, but I’m still completely obsessed with trying to land a triple word tile with an x or z.

Lose It!

My newest app aims to help you lose weight.  I don’t actually own a scale, so I mostly use it as a food diary.  The app calculates what your daily caloric intake should be based on current weight, height, and age.  You can look up foods in the database, and log what you have for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.  You can also add exercises, which impact the amount of calories you can eat.  It’s rather eye-opening to realize where your calories go… and a little accountability goes a long way when I’m contemplating another piece of chocolate!

Helpful Apps

I never thought I would need an app for websites like  eBay, Yelp, Walgreens, Facebook, and Better Homes and Gardens Recipes… but they are so helpful when deciding how to best spend money–on clothes, restaurants, refilling a prescription, or at the grocery store!

I know this post excludes a lot of people who don’t own an iPhone, don’t see what the fuss is about, and are happily existing without being aware of every single interaction on every single social media website ever encountered.  But if you do have an iPhone, and are as addicted as I am, my question is…. am I missing out an another obsession?  If so, let me know!
