Sam and I visited the Coit Tower landmark a few weeks ago, starting at Washington Square in North Beach, trekking up the (steep) hill.  The murals and view were amazing, I’m not sure the $7 (each!) ride in the claustrophobic elevator was quite worth a return trip.
