Second Blogiversary Giveaway!

Two years ago, I started ruminating on the idea of starting a blog.  It was 2010, I was a few weeks into my second year as a school librarian, and I was going a bit stir-crazy.  All kinds of anxious thoughts were dominating my mind… anxiety about my health, my stressful job, my husband finding a job after grad school, when/where/if we would soon be moving…  I needed an outlet.  Pronto.

At first, toying with the idea of keeping up with a blog, I didn’t think I would have anything to write about.  So I asked myself, what do I do?  When I’m not working, or going to school, what do I DO with myself?

Well… my answer was: I read.  And write.  And cross-stitch.  And enjoy my cats.  And occasionally dabble in other things.   And as I started writing about the things that I did, I started doing new things so I would have something to write about.  I cooked more recipes, I started learning to quilt, I started looking for little things in my life that I could share.  There were epic fails, of course, and I shared those too.  Part of the freedom of my amateur status, after all, is that I have never claimed to be an expert of anything!

Along the way, my life went through a few dramatic changes, and this blog became much more of an outlet than I ever intended.  Blogging became more than something to stave off boredom, and as my life changed so did this blog.  Now it’s a full-time hobby, and I can’t imagine what I would do with myself if I weren’t maintaining the Amateur Librarian… even if I don’t have time to read, or cook, or craft, I still have time to write a little something to keep this blog going.

So that’s how I got started, two years ago.

Another August has rolled around, and as my way of commemorating the occasion… and thanking those of you who stop by to read… I’m hosting my Second Blogiversary Giveaway! To celebrate two years, I have two happies to give away, hand-made by yours truly.

And instead of questionnaires or polls or voting, I’m keeping the entries very simple this time around.  All you have to do for a chance to win is leave a comment answering the question: “What would you like the Amateur Librarian to talk about?

I’m looking for inspiration!  New ideas for posts, old ideas that you enjoyed, anything goes!  Just give me one idea, and maybe it will inspire a future post!  I’ll randomly choose two comments, and announce the winner next week on August 16th.  Comments will be open for one week, up until 9 PM PCT on 8/15.

And now on to the prizes…

I went with a summer theme for both.  We’re halfway through August and summer-time is dwindling, so I’m trying to hold on to it for as long as I can!

First up, a quilted table topper.  (Or wall hanging.  Or place mat.  The possibilities are endless!)

Chevron is very hot right now… and of course watermelons will always go with a hot summer day 🙂

Secondly, a quilted sunglasses case. (Or regular glasses, of course.)  It’s patchtastic, including some of my favorite fabrics!

And of course, both are “signed” by The Amateur Librarian!

To enter to win one of these prizes, please leave a comment answering the question:

What would you like the Amateur Librarian to talk about?

  1. I’m a sucker for a marriage blog–I know there’s a fine line between sharing and oversharing, but I would be interested to read some about you and Sam are handling the transition to a new life as far as your relationship is concerned!

  2. I am a new reader to your blog and I truly enjoy it. You write about several things that I really like. Local sights is something I really like knowing more about – the things that ‘locals’ like to see and do around where they live. I haven’t made my way through all of yours, but that is a topic, I think, that never gets old.

  3. You have illustrations and text? I would love to see that! If you’re not quite ready to send it out into the big wide world, that’s understandable. San Francisco though, can’t get enough of that! (P.S. I love your blog. I just forgot how to “comment”. I actually forgot my “name”. How lame is that!?)
