Top 100 Young Adult Novels

Have you seen this list?  NPR held an online vote to compile a list of the  “100 Best-Ever Teen Novels.”

source

I’ve seen a lot of griping online about the list, and there are certainly bound to be flaws with any top-100 list, but I really can’t complain since I didn’t even participate in the voting.

The main complaints are that some classics have been left off—apparently Pride and Prejudice was considered “too universal” to be considered YA Lit even though it was nominated often, and Ender’s Game was considered too violent (which frankly seems a bit ridiculous compared to some other books on the list).  And I heard that some authors campaigned online for votes, which might explain why they were chosen over other books (*cough*John Green *cough*).

But like I said, I didn’t contribute so I can’t really criticize the final list.  (If you want to read a hilarious gripe from a blog that actually did vote, look here.)  Let’s just take the list as it is.  Just for fun, I’ve gone through the list to highlight the books I’ve read, reviewed, and the ones on my To-Read list.   You know how I love lists!

Bold = I’ve read it (with a + if I loved it)

Italics = I want to read it

?!? = I don’t want to read it or I’ve never heard of it

Link = I’ve blogged about it

27 out of 100 for me…. and my To-Read list just got longer!  Lists like these are fun, but I have to say I don’t take them too seriously.  What do you think?  Do you agree with the top 10 ranking?

And don’t forget… Wednesday is the last day to leave a comment for my 2nd Blogiversary Giveaway to win!
