The Lost Reading Logs: August 2009

I’ve been keeping a Reading Log since late 2008.  And when I started trying to organize all those Reading Logs in the blog archives, I realized I was pretty inconsistent about sharing them.  There are entire months unpublished, although (I promise!) I was still keeping track of what I was reading.

So now, mostly for my own organizational sanity, I thought I’d share some of those Lost Reading Logs–and then I can fill in the gaps of my archives.  The first logs I kept were for my purposes only, so they’re short and sweet.  I hope you enjoy my thoughts, and maybe get some book recommendations!

Thoughts:

Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities, by Alexandra Robbins (B-)

Lost interest towards the end, but in general an interesting topic.  Characters got confusing.  Didn’t learn anything new, but conclusions seem accurate.  Ok.

Operating Instructions, by Anne Lamott (A+)

A very sad, funny, satisfying re-read.  Made me think of my mom a lot.  Love Anne Lamott’s real life more than her fiction.

Mary Modern, by Camille DeAngelis (C+)

Audio book for the commute.  Narrator drove me crazy insinuating emotions I wouldn’t read into character’s dialogue.  Very interesting premise, but sketchily written.

Charlotte’s Web, by E.B. White (A+)

So glad I finally read it!  Wonderful characterization, so much more vivid than modern children’s lit.  Loved it.

Let’s see… at this time in my life, I was two months into my first job after college as a Media Specialist in an elementary school.  I was probably going crazy at this point, trying not to be frazzled to death, ha!  Maybe it shows in the boks I was reading – a bit all over the place, from non-fiction to children’s lit to audio books.

So that’s what I was reading in August 2009!  Anyone remember any good books from that year?
