So yep, it’s the week before Valentine’s Day and I have no lovey dovey Pin-spired V-Day projects to share. It just didn’t happen this year. Instead, I found this super easy and useful storage tip.
I’ve seen this pin all over the place – cut up a pool noodle to act as boot inserts to keep your boots upright.
Brilliant, right? The only problem is that there aren’t a lot of pool accessories in the middle of the city.
Then I came upon this simple but clever trick, which does the same thing but uses something we all have – old magazines.
It’s not super cute, but it gets the job done!
First, take a peek at my terribly unorganized and messy Before picture:
Yes, I snapped this pic without any straightening up at all, as I’m sure you can tell. I only have four pairs of boots, but in a tiny closet they tend to fall all over the place no matter how many times I try to line them up.
Enter: magazines! (Or catalogs, newspapers, calendars, programs, etc. – anything that’s flexible with a little bit of heft.)
All you do is fold up the magazine and place it inside each boot. Ta-da! The boots stand upright for easy storage, and it helps prevent all those creases in the leather too. No need for expensive “boot inserts.” You can slide the magazine down further so you don’t even see it, but I’m lazy.
Speaking of laziness – I wanted to try out this tip for a couple weeks just to make sure it wasn’t too much of a hassle to pull out the magazines every time I wanted to wear boots. I’ve found that it’s really not that big of a deal – just a few extra seconds before and after. If it does seem like a huge annoyance, you could use this as more of a storage trick in the summer months when you don’t actually wear boots.
Easy peasy, right? Right! Thanks again, Pinterest.
