WIWW: February 10-16, 2013

What I Wore Wednesday is my motivation for wearing the clothes I own, finding new ways to mix and match outfits, and not wearing the same three things all the time!  I kept a fashion diary for the entire year of 2012, and now in 2013 I’m adding a bit about my days to go along with the outfit.  So these weekly check-ins are a nice journal of my life too!

I love this cute little striped dress – another find on eBay, and it fits perfectly!  Love the stripes, and a subtle nod to Valentine’s Day with the red and heart necklace.  Went to small group  after church– we didn’t have our usual room, so we crowded into the choir director’s office, and it was actually really cozy.  The topic of Forgiveness was compelling – and it made me realize how much we’ve come to enjoy meeting with this group twice a month.  Afterwards, we enjoyed the pretty weather with a walk around the neighborhood running a few errands.  We stayed up to watch the Grammy’s – but couldn’t muster the energy for 2 hours of Downton Abbey.  No problem for me, though – I love watching it on the DVR after a long day of work!

I’ve realized that I have a few superstitious habits when it comes to what I wear?… and I do it without even thinking about it.   I always wear red of First Days (of school/jobs/student teaching, etc.), I always wear navy when I travel by plane, I always have to paint my toes before a trip, I like to wear holiday-specific colors, etc.  On Monday, when my uncle faced open-heart surgery, I wore a pair of my Grandma’s pearls in his honor.  Thankfully, my uncle came through just fine, although it didn’t go quite as smoothly as it could have.  I was feeling under the weather with congestion and sore throat, but I went to the gym after work anyway.

Love this little lace dress – yes, another eBay find.  (You can’t go wrong with Forever 21.)  Normally I would wear a belt to cinch the waist, but today I went with comfort.  The little tie-dye jacket (yep, more eBay!) made it fitted enough.  Worked out after work – but decided to take a break for the rest of the week, to try and kick my cold before Friday’s infusion.

Valentine’s Day Eve!  Wore these black flats again since I knew I’d be walking a lot – my boss took us all out to lunch, and we took cabs to make our reservation but walked back to the office afterwards.  (My boss is awesome!) These flats have about had it – I wear them so much that they’re all scuffed up.   So now I’m on the hunt for another pair of versatile black flats… is it too weird to buy the same exact pair again? I’m still thinking on it.  I’ll probably end up scouring eBay, my favorite hobby 🙂

V -Day!  Got to wear my gift to work – a new necklace from Sam 🙂  I went the symbolic route for Sam with a “gift of light” – dedicating a light on the new Bay bridge that will be lit up in March.  The 6th light on the 13th cable of tour 4 – the numbers of our (4th) anniversary.  We met up for lunch – one of my favorite things about Sam’s new job is that we’re a lot closer.  Then popcorn for dinner to see the movie Beautiful Creatures (I feel like I should say something about it, since I’ve been reading the books and really enjoying them.  But… you know how they say if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all?  Basically… I wouldn’t recommend the movie, whether or not you’ve read the books.)

Casual Friday!  I left the office early to go to the hospital for my infusion.  There was quite a wait, but fortunately everything went smoothly – the nurse was nice, the pre-meds led to a nice nap while I listened to music, and no complications to mar our plans for Vegas.  As soon as I was home and fed, it finally hit me that we were leaving for Las Vegas the next day!  Even though we’ve had the trip planned for a couple months, I never felt like I had any time to get excited about it.  So I finally did some internet research – looked up sights to see, restaurants, do’s and don’ts, printed out all of our flight/hotel information… and finally had time to get excited!  Anticipation is half the fun, right?

Our flight left late in the day, so I needed comfy clothes for everything on the agenda – errands, cleaning, tax prep (I got to bring out my label maker!), and finally – flying!  We left early for the airport and by the skin of our teeth got onto an earlier flight.  The flight attendant had already told us the plane was full, but at the last moment there was a no-show and we ran onto the plane with two minutes ‘til takeoff.  It was such a giddy feeling to be up in the air and arriving a couple hours earlier than planned.

After checking into the hotel, we changed clothes and enjoyed the night life.  (More on our Las Vegas getaway in tomorrow’s post!)

I’m linked up to The Pleated Poppy for WIWW!

  1. All so beautiful. Loved the jewelry, especially the chevron & pippa necklaces, and the rice pearls. Loved the navy dress, & all the reds!
