WIWW: February 17-23, 2013

What I Wore Wednesday is my motivation for wearing the clothes I own, finding new ways to mix and match outfits, and not wearing the same three things all the time!  I kept a fashion diary for the entire year of 2012, and now in 2013 I’m adding a bit about my days to go along with the outfit.  So these weekly check-ins are a nice journal of my life too!

Las Vegas!  I was surprised that the temps varied so much- mornings and afternoons were cool, with the temps climbing to high 70s during the day and plunging to the 40s at night.  Quite a range!  Even knowing the highs and lows from the weather channel, I still didn’t really know what to expect – good thing this top was lightweight, because my coat definitely wasn’t needed!  If I could do anything differently for our next trip, it would be to pack more clothes – I wanted to be efficient by packing all our stuff in one duffel bag, but there would still have been room for more.  Options would have been nice – something short-sleeved for during the day, more shoes (always!) for if we were walking or casino-hopping, and I definitely underestimated how dressy the nightlife could be – so a cute dress would have been fun to bring along.  Luckily, I threw in a pair of flats at the last minute- I had planned on wearing boots all weekend, but it ended up being too hot during the day.  Anyway, enough about the weather.  This shirt was great for day-to-night transition, and of course I love the studs down the arms!  For more details on our Vegas getaway, look to last week’s photo dump post.

President’s Day!  Up and at ’em early in the morning for our flight, so comfy clothes were a must – the matching was unintentional!  The quick flight was so nice – we were back home with the kitties before lunch.  Quite a difference from the cross-country flights that take all day when we visit family!  It was much colder in San Fran, so I apreciated the scarf for sure.  I was totally lazy for the rest of the day – the chores were already done, so I lounged on the couch and caught up on Downton Abbey.  It was delightful. (The lounging, not the finale of Downton Abbey – omg!!  Even though I knew Matthew wasn’t renewing his contract, I am still IN SHOCK.)

Back to work, busy as a bee.  We had casual dress all week – nice to ease back from a holiday weekend with jeans – plus, it was super cold, so I grabbed a cozy sweater!  (OK, by cold, I mean compared to the sunny temps of the previous week – it was probably only in the 40’s.)   Book club was on the calendar, but too many people couldn’t make it so we rescheduled for happy hour the next week.  I hadn’t signed up for a Bar Method class in time, so I couldn’t work out – but honestly, I was happy to just go home after work and spend some quality time with the couch.  Life in the real world after a mini-vacation is exhausting!

grey cardigan // Forever 21
grey tights // Gap
brown ankle strap wedges // PayLess

I love this striped dress – added grey tights and cardigan to make it more work appropriate – but I flats instead of heels since it was still “casual dress” at work.  I wanted to dress up a little because I had to help interview a potential candidate – it’s strange being on the other side of the table in an interview!  A good learning experience, though.  Worked out after work, and Sam cooked dinner!  (Which means fish sticks with mac & cheese, his specialty.)

Busy day at work – the week flew by!  I love my new snakeskin flats – my newest eBay find.  You know when I started the hunt for a new go-to pair of black flats, I couldn’t choose just one pair…!  Worked out after work, and my reward – pizza and Project Runway!  Always my favorite night of the week.

This week felt really busy, even though nothing really happened.  I guess I just felt behind from the get-go after the long weekend – but it sure was nice that Friday came quickly! I’ve been looking for outfit inspiration on Pinterest lately – and I guess these colors stuck in my head from pinning the night before.  It’s the casual version of black-on-black with hot pink on top (from Outfit Posts, my favorite style blog).

I worked out on my lunch hour, which was a great stress reliever.  And after work – our usual!  Dinner at our favorite place, and watching The West Wing at home (we just started season one – Sam has never watched it!).

Sunny Saturday – errands and cleaning in the morning, and the Chinese New Year parade at night.  I’ve been missing friends and family a lot lately – especially when we can’t make it to special occasions because we’re too far away- but days like this make me glad to live in the city.

I’m linked up to The Pleated Poppy for WIWW!
