Another week of What I Wore Wednesday!
What I Wore Wednesday is my motivation for wearing the clothes I own, finding new ways to mix and match outfits, and not wearing the same three things all the time! I kept a fashion diary for the entire year of 2012, and now in 2013 I’m adding a bit about my days to go along with the outfit. So these weekly check-ins are a nice journal of my life too!

Happy Easter! I wasn’t feeling well, so we ended up lounging around the house and running a few errands. This outfit is the epitome of comfort – the ombre strips are just for fun! Maybe next year we’ll observe the annual Hunky Jesus Contest…

Easy peasy outfit for the beginning of a long, stressful week at work. New employee = training all day while trying to do my job and learn how to do my new position… I was a little frazzled to say the least. But on the bright side… I did get Sam with an April Fool’s joke! (It wasn’t an elaborate practical joke, I just told him we had the day off for Chavez Day, and he believed me… until I told him the truth a couple minute later.) Mom had me fooled for a second when she said Downton Abbey had bee cancelled… but only for a second! Went to The Bar Method after work.

I’ve had this hand-me-down dress for a long, long time… since I was in high school, I think. And I never knew when to wear it – it’s velvet, which seems like a wintry fabric, but it’s also sleeveless and the embroidery is fall-ish. So it sat in my closet for a long time because I loved it but had no idea when to wear it. But in an effort to actually wear the clothes I own, I’ve decided to embrace the brown/black color combo trend and try it out with this dress. And now that I’m not living in a muggy/hot climate, it’s easier to throw on a cardigan and call this work appropriate! Work was fine, and I went to the gym again afterwards.

I like these colors together a lot – mint green, navy blue, and grey. Another stressful day at work. Worked out again at the gym.

plum tights // Gap

Rainy day – cozy, but it sure didn’t make waking up any easier. I was worried this dress would be too short, but I think the boots toned it down a bit. And after all, what good is being petite if I can’t wear shorter hems? I’m still trying to figure out how to incorporate colored tights without looking too casual for work. I think the plum works since everything else is grey or black. Went to the Bar Method again after work.

Casual Friday! I love the tunic trend – so easy to wear. I do have to pay attention to proportion since anything oversized can swallow me up, but this top is the perfect length. At the end of a long, stressful week, I was feeling pretty drained. After work we walked down to our favorite Italian restaurant, but the wait was too daunting for our hungry stomachs. So we walked a few more blocks to try out a new-to-us restaurant, and I’m so glad we did! We didn’t have reservations, but they squeezed us into a tiny corner table. The atmosphere was so homey – the warm colors, attentive waiters, candles and rose petals on every table, all combined for quite a cozy experience. It didn’t hurt that both the appetizers and dessert were on the house in celebration of someone’s birthday. Or that my one wine glass was topped off every time the waiter came by to fill another table’s or when a bottle was empty… which seemed to happen quite a few times. It was such a happy accident to stumble upon this place, and it helped me to shake off the stress of the week.

I needed a day to crash, and Saturday was just the ticket. I puttered around in my comfy moccasins and hardly left the house all day – it was overcast and rainy, perfect for cutting into fabric for a new quilt and catching up on laundry. We started watching the Game of Thrones TV series – and we’re officially hooked! At first I resisted, because I didn’t want to commit to another new show (we’re still trying to finish The Wire and West Wing), plus I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read the books first… but once we got started, we just kept watching one after another. The show is so good!
