One Monday a month, a local bar hosts an open mic night for local comedians. We’ve visited once before, but we have a lot of trouble actually remembering when to show up… but this past Monday, (miracle of miracles) Sam actually remembered just in time to attend!
The open mic night at Cafe Royale (on Post Street) starts around 7, and lasts about two hours. Hyde Away BBQ caters on Monday nights, so we got to enjoy some Southern BBQ with cornbread and lobster mac & cheese while we sat in the audience.
What could be better than soul food and comedy? Hyde Away BBQ had these cute post card ads, so of course I had to snag a picture.
We sat upstairs, with a view down onto the stage and main bar area. There were probably 10-12 comedians, working on new material and practicing for upcoming shows. Comedy always makes for a fun night 🙂
Not bad for a Monday night, definitely out of the ordinary for us. If (when) we ever leave the area, I think this will be the sort of thing I will miss most – a little bit of spontaneity, a free show, and all within walking distance of home.
More city sights coming soon as we continue to explore San Francisco!
