I love simple switches that suddenly make life a lot easier.
I’ve had an over-the-door shoe rack hanging in the bedroom closet since we moved here. It seems like the logical place to put it, right? But in the last few months, in an effort to spend less time deciding what to wear each morning, I’ve started picking out the upcoming week’s clothes on the weekend and hanging them up. Most of my shoes have migrated to a fabric cube, and the only ones left were almost never worn. (You can barely see a peek of my belt storage on the right.)
This system was fine, until I started noticing that all that extra hanging weight was starting to tear at the fabric shoe slots.
A little switcheroo was in order.
The shoe rack migrated to the hall closet, where it now provides extra storage for cleaning supplies. Obviously I still have lots of room…
I bought another over-the-door set of hooks from the hardware store, which is much better suited for clothes hangers. Some shoes made it to the closet, and others went into the donation pile since I never wore them. And now the outfit for each day of the week gets its own hook – which is much better for those days when I don’t want to wear what I’ve picked, and start rummaging through my other choices…
I love easy changes that make routines so much efficient! I’m linking up to We Are That Family for Works for Me Wednesday!
Great idea!
