WIWW: April 21-27, 2013

Another week of What I Wore Wednesday!

The Amateur Librarian // What I Wore Wednesday

What I Wore Wednesday is my motivation for wearing the clothes I own, finding new ways to mix and match outfits, and not wearing the same three things all the time! I kept a fashion diary for the entire year of 2012, and now in 2013 I’m adding a bit about my days to go along with the outfit. So these weekly check-ins are a nice journal of my life too!

The first day of bare legs in 2013!  I was worried that I would need a cardigan if the breeze picked up, but I actually didn’t need it at all.  It was the perfect day for a summer dress like this.  We went to small group and then headed to Japantown afterwards for the Cherry Blossom Festival.  We missed the parade but not the crowds, so we did some people watching but headed home after an hour or so.  We ended up walking several miles, so it was good exercise and Vitamin D if nothing else.  Speaking of Vitamin D – we stopped by a vitamin store on the way home because I was out of my fish oil supplement.  When did vitamins become so confusing, not to mention expensive?  My mom combed the ends of the earth to find a reputable brand for me to find at the store, and we walked out with three bottles and $70 less in our bank account.  The supply will last several months, but still… yikes!

Minty Monday!  I like the soft grey and mint colors paired with the black, and I wore flats so I could go straight from work to book club at the end of the day.  It was nice to catch up with the girls for sure.  (We all enjoyed The Family Fang, by Kevin Wilson, it brought up lots of discussion.  Next up is Wolf Hall, by Hilary Mantel.)

grey tights // Gap
ankle boots // eBay

I hadn’t worn this dress to work yet because I was worried the bright color and cotton knit just weren’t professional enough for the office.  I’m still on the fence, but I think the tights and ankle boots were definitely necessary to get away from the “bathing suit cover-up” look.  Although actually, I ended up removing the cardigan for most of the day and liked the look better.  I went to the gym after work, and it felt so good to get a great work out after almost a week away.  I always sleep so much better if I can really tire myself out.

This outfit felt slouchy all day long.  I guess because the top was loose, the cardigan was loose, and the pants aren’t skinny to balance it all out.  I really tried to make this top look work-appropriate, and maybe it would work if I paired it with a fitted blazer, but I think I’m better off wearing it on Casual Friday or on the weekends.  It just isn’t polished enough to look professional.  Oh well – you win some, you lose some.  After work, I went to the gym again.

This isn’t the outfit I had planned to wear at all, but after discarding a million other options, I went straight to my black/white dress section (this is when color coding my closet comes in handy) and threw this on.  I forgot how much I like this dress!  Black and white is always easy – I added a necklace and blazer to the tights and flats I already had on, and I was good to go.  Skipped working out to go to pub trivia night with co-workers.  (And guess what—we won first place!  My shining moment was knowing the original language that the Kama Sutra was written in, which tipped us over the edge.  I’m not sure where the answer came from in my head, but I was right – Sanskrit!)

Maybe it wasn’t the best idea to schedule an early morning doctor’s appointment the day after pub trivia.  But I survived!  I usually give myself a pass on Fridays when it comes to working out, but with so many skipped days during the week, I forced myself to go to the gym after work.  And of course, I felt much better after going.  Afterwards, Sam and I decided to eat dinner nearby.  I changed out of my workout gear and we walked to a restaurant we’ve been wanting to try – super convenient since we finally work in the same area of the city.  Nothing like happy hour to wash away the cares of the week.

The weather started out overcast, which was fine by me.  I got caught up on cleaning and made some progress on my friend’s baby quilt.  A lazy day was just what I needed to feel refreshed, and I only left the house once– to pick up to-go salads for lunch.
