Last Thursday we completed another San Fran First – our first Giants game!
The BART is super conveniently located near both of our offices, so Sam and I left after work and made it to AT&T Park in plenty of time before the game started. We scoped out the stadium and concessions before settling in our seats. My favorite part was the giant coke bottle slide for kids! If only I were two decades younger…
The Giants were playing the Braves, which was a fun coincidence since I grew up watching the Atlanta Braves games with my Dad’s side of the family – occasionally at the ballpark, but mostly on TV. I was always bored by baseball, but now at least I see the fun in any event that involves eating concession food, hanging out, and people watching! It was LGBT night too (only in SF, right?!), and I was jealous that we didn’t buy the special tickets to get a free t-shirt.
We weren’t quite in the nosebleeds, but our seats weren’t exactly great. It would’ve been nice to have a better view of the jumbo tron or the bay or be closer to the players, but I still enjoyed the view of the field and the clouds rolling by… until the clouds turned into fog and the temps dropped dramatically. We had jackets since it’s always cold at night, but we forgot to factor in the bay. It was way colder than we expected!
So we huddled in our hoodies, sipped on our margaritas, and shivered until it wasn’t worth it anymore… yep, we only made it until the sixth inning! I guess we’re the definition of fair weather fans… oops!
(A word on the “margaritas”: I don’t know what we were thinking… “margaritas” from a keg were borderline disgusting… next time we’ll stick to beer or coke!)
Even though we didn’t stay for the entire game, you can’t beat the view of the bay bridge… or the empty BART train since we left early! It was fun to spend a night at the ballpark by the bay!
More city sights coming soon as we explore San Francisco!
