City Sights: Union Street Festival

Woohoo, two city sights in one week!  Last weekend the weather was gorgeous and we wanted to spend the day outside.  We perused funcheapsf.com (our go-to for weekend events) and found a street festival nearby.

So we headed down to Union Street in the Marina for a few hours of people watching.  The street festivals start to run together after a while, honestly – but it never gets old.  The live music, fair food, vendors, crafts – I just love walking through it and soaking up some sun.  We always check out the food first – Sam went with the hot dog, and I got crab cakes.

Then we just walked the length and back, before returning home.

A few city sights – dance lessons.

This psychic must be doing pretty well for herself – lots of neon signs!

How much do you like tots?

You know you’re in San Francisco when the streets are steep enough to act as seating.

On our way home, we stopped by two of my favorite places – Loving cup for frozen yogurt (vanilla blended with junior mints is my favorite) and Russian Hill Books.

Any book store is a haven, but I especially like the blend of old and new in this one.

I always find my way to the children’s section, and I spent quite some time looking through the shelves.

Maybe Sam wasn’t quite as enthralled as I was?

My favorite discovery is the Baby Lit series – I think I’ve seen them described online, but they are really fun to look through in person.

Each board book is based on classic lit – Jane Eyre, Dracula, Moby Dick, etc. – with a children’s book spin on it.  Counting, vocabulary, opposites, fun stuff!  Of course I had to take Pride and Prejudice home with me.

I also picked up a mystery and a Newberry award winner I’ve been meaning to read for years.

I walked home a happy camper indeed – it was a great way to spend the day out and about!

More city sights coming soon as we explore San Francisco!
