Last week we met my parents in Seattle for a whirlwind of a visit leading up to the wedding of a family friend. It was an amazing trip! We crammed so much fun into such a short amount of time that it would be way to overwhelming to put it all in one post. So I’ll share a bit at a time as I gather pics and memories together. My family makes fun of me for “documenting” every moment, but I really do enjoy looking through photos again after it’s all over.
This first Seattle sight isn’t actually in the city at all – we took a day trip to see Snoqualmie Falls and a bit of the surrounding area. It was exactly the type of weather you’d expect for Washington, cool and damp and misty. I suppose it might get depressing after a while, but I loved it!
Snoqualmie Falls is about 45 minutes outside of Seattle, with pretty trails built for viewing the falls.
As we walked toward Salish Lodge at the top of the waterfall, I mentioned to Sam that it reminded me of the inn from Twin Peaks. Lo and behold… it’s the very place filmed in the TV show! I was pretty proud of myself for getting the reference before anyone else guessed it, ha!
The lodge was pretty awesome… I could basically live in this room for the rest of my life.
We drove toward the town of Snoqualmie to check out the train museum. Unfortunately, the train only runs on the weekends, but the tiny museum was pretty cool.
This is Sam pointing out the sign that says not to stand on the train… and then standing on it when we keep telling him to ignore the sign. My family are such rule breakers…
We ate lunch at The Brewery… and my parents made fun of me taking pictures of the food. I can’t help it!
After lunch we wandered through town and stopped by a general store. I love places like this… I even found a table cloth that looked exactly like one I had ogled at the Salish Lodge gift shop (for half the price).
We drove through North Bend and found the cafe from Twin Peaks! It was unexpectedly awesome to find out that so many of the iconic scenes in the show were filmed there!
Next we stopped at an overlook for a great view of the mountains.
We happened to drive by a brand new casino, and on a whim we stopped by for a half hour. It was so bizarre to walk from the wide expanse of nature outside into the climate-controlled casino environment inside, but it was a fun diversion.
Our last stop for the day was Rattlesnake Lake. Gorgeous views!
Whew! Quite a lot for a little day trip. (Unfortunately, we caught rush hour traffic on the way back into the city.)
More sights from Seattle coming soon!
