Seattle Sights: Seattle Center

Somehow a week has passed since we’ve gotten back from our whirlwind trip to Seattle… and I still haven’t gone through all my photos!  I don’t know what’d I do without blogging, I’d probably never have any recent pictures organized at all.  We crammed so much fun into such a short amount of time that I’ve been parsing out a day at a time into each post.

Next up – the Seattle Center!  The downtown tourist hub was just a couple blocks from our hotel, and we found ourselves walking past it whether or not it was our final destination.

One night we took the monorail from the Seattle Center to downtown, and then walked to Pike Place Market.

Unfortunately, we didn’t realize that the market closes down by 7 PM.  Even the empty market was pretty cool – I’m glad we got to return on our last day!  After eating dinner near Post Alley, we rode the monorail back to the hotel.  It was a fun experience to see the city from above, although later we figured that it was less expensive to just take a taxi for all four of us.

On our last day in Seattle, we had time to visit the Seattle Center before the wedding on Saturday night.  Our first stop was the iconic Space Needle.

The 360 degree view was pretty amazing.  The weather was perfect – warm and sunny.  We even sipped some coffe and enjoyed the view at the cafe.

Next we visited the Chihuly exhibit, featuring the blown glass installations and garden.

I really can’t describe how amazing it was, from one room to the next it just got more and more exciting.   The reflections and lighting inside were breathtaking.

We walked into the first room, and what an introduction!  I didn’t know what to expect from the exhibit, but after the first room I was really excited to see what came next!

This next room was gorgeous, especially the textiles!

The ocean room was awesome…

But I think this room was my favorite.  It was hard to stop staring at the ceiling!

Each room had more fantastic colors and new shapes.  OK, I’ll be quiet now!

The exhibit continued outdoors in the garden, an organic mix of glass and natural landscaping.  In a word, awesome.

One feature that was pretty cool were the wandering photographers who would snap a pic for free, and you could go online to find your picture.  It was fun to have a professional picture as a free souvenir!

One more post about the sights we saw in Seattle coming soon!
