I can’t believe I’ve been back from my Alabama trip for a week already! I’m feeling so behind since my trip ended last week… so before too much time passes, I thought I’d do a photo dump to chronicle my Alabama adventures. I had a great time hanging out with my parents, my brother and his girlfriend, the bride and groom, and all the family friends I haven’t seen in years at the wedding. I did a recap of sorts in yesterday’s WIWW post, so I’ll try not to repeat what I’ve already said.
I was a bit of a zombie after my redeye flight to Atlanta. Mom and Dad picked me up at the airport, and we drove to Midtown Atlanta to see my brother and his girlfriend. They have the cutest loft apartment with a cluster of restaurants right down the block. We went to a really cute spot for breakfast, and it was just great to all be in the same room together.
Afterwards, we headed home and spent the day running a few errands and catching up on Project Runway (AKA napping on the couch). It was awesome to eat my Mom’s home cooking and relax.
Before the wedding events commenced, Mom and I did a bit of shopping. I always feel like I hit the jackpot down South, with all the sales and low prices at the department stores. There’s nothing like it in the city, that’s for sure!
It was great to see my friend Sarah and her parents at the rehearsal, and I got to meet the groom for the first time! I haven’t been to our childhood church in many years, it was so neat to be back. I even have a square in that quilt!
The rehearsal went smoothly, and the dinner afterwards was great. The groom’s mother decorated with ribbons and flowers, and it was a very sweet and intimate dinner. The bride and groom even gave me a gift of fabric… I think they know the way to my heart!
Afterwards, all the young people who had travelled for the wedding met up… my brother and his girlfriend drove down from Atlanta, so that was fun to have more time to hang out together. I didn’t last long… I was in bed by midnight!
The big day. Unfortunately, the beautiful weather dissipated and the rain came pouring down almost all day. The bride and groom weren’t fazed at all, and we had a great time getting ready. The ceremony was beautiful, and the reception was equally gorgeous. It was just a beautiful night all around.
Recovery day… the perfect day to be lazy with the family. I caught a mother-son moment with the guitar… this is what I miss about being home!
We went to the movies and had popcorn for lunch (my favorite). Later we took a walk around the neighborhood with Clyde. Before Brock and Kristina headed back to Atlanta, we had one last dinner together.
I thought I would have lots of time to read on vacation, but I was exhausted by the end of every night. Sunday was no exception… I think we were all dozing off during the Emmy’s.
My last full day in Alabama. So of course we went shopping! Mom and I visited a few really cute spots in downtown Opelika, including Ma Fia’s for lunch, an awesome store called Resurrect, and the Overall Company to take a gander at the gourmet popsicles and enjoy some coffee.
Before the afternoon was over, I got to catch up with a childhood friend that I haven’t seen since my wedding… good times!
At the end of the day, we relaxed on the deck and savored our last night together… bittersweet, for sure!
It’s been fun reliving my Alabama adventures… although it definitely makes me homesick. One of these days we’ll move closer to home. But until then… at least we can always plan another trip to look forward to.
