What I Wore Wednesday is my motivation for wearing the clothes I own, finding new ways to mix and match outfits, and not wearing the same three things all the time! I kept a fashion diary for the entire year of 2012, in 2013 I added a bit about my days to go along with the outfit, and I’m continuing the same tradition in 2014… So these weekly check-ins are a mini journal of my life too!

My favorite birthday present was going to the Tennessee Renaissance Faire while my brother and his gf visited – I’ve never been to one before, and it was so much more fun than I expected! Lots to do and see, from jousting to people watching to vendors of all sorts to magicians and jugglers, to loads of fair food. Super hot day, so I ended up cuffing my jeans and borrowing a hair tie – these are the days I start to think about chopping all my hair off! We were all exhausted by mid-afternoon, so we hung out for a few hours at home before heading out for dinner in downtown Franklin. It’s been a lot of fun to explore our new home with visitors in tow too!

Happy Memorial Day! Bittersweet to say goodbye, but at least it’s comforting that we’re only a drive away instead of a day’s flight! Hubby and I mostly lazed about for the rest of the day, then went out to run some errands. After dinner we walked to a nearby pond to visit the Canadian geese and watch the babies, who are now in an awkward gangly stage which is pretty cute. We decided to try out the cat harness again with Cora, and she actually enjoyed being outside enough to walk around a bit (as opposed to rolling around angrily). Unfortunately she ate a lot of grass and threw it all up once we were back inside… and that was the end of our big weekend!

Back to work for the short week… never a fun transition. This top is so comfortable, I wish I had five copies I could wear every day! After work we took advantage of “Stimulus Tuesday” at the movie theater to see the new X-man movie… pretty good!

Wow, Wednesday already! I love long weekends but I’m always off kilter during short weeks. I think red and blue is one of my favorite color combos, and I am still loving my new red shoes – who knew they would go with so much?

I bought this top quite a while ago and loved the color, but it looked too short with jeans so I was debating whether to donate it or keep it… then I finally tried wearing it to work and ended up loving it! I guess my work pants have a higher waist so it doesn’t look quite so cropped. It’s funny how sometimes I have this fixed idea that a piece of clothing is only for work or only for the weekend, but it actually works better in a different setting. I also love this necklace but haven’t worn it much lately, the color matches so perfectly! Nothing much to say about my day, I felt grumpy all week for no real reason – probably just because all the fun things are over and I’m trying to regain my balance. Such is life!

Another favorite thing I haven’t worn in a while – these pants! Easy way to make a black top a little more interesting. These shoes are about worn out and I need to get another pair. Side note: you may have noticed that almost all my shoes are from PayLess – they’re super cheap and they’re the only mainstream retailer I’ve found that carries shoes that fit me! They also make some of the same adult styles in children’s sizes which is helpful too – even cheaper!

Started the weekend with a walk to my favorite pond. I’ve been thinking lately about waking up earlier in order to walk more often, it really helps clear my mind and greet the day with a better attitude… so we’ll see if I can make that happen! Otherwise, another normal Saturday with laundry, errands, and some much-needed time with my sewing machine.
