Double WIWW: June 29-July 5 and July 6-12, 2014

Another week of What I Wore Wednesday!  I was at the beach last week, so this week is doubled up.

What I Wore Wednesday is my motivation for wearing the clothes I own, finding new ways to mix and match outfits, and not wearing the same three things all the time! I kept a fashion diary for the entire year of 2012, in 2013 I added a bit about my days to go along with the outfit, and I’m continuing the same tradition in 2014… So these weekly check-ins are a mini journal of my life too!

I’m not sure what the oldest item in my closet is anymore, but this shirt is probably up there – one of my only remaining mementos from the trip I took with my uncle to Paris and London after high school graduation. I still remember how thrilling it was to buy something in Paris, even if it was from a chain with plenty of US stores! Ran some errands, including a trip to JoAnn’s to check out their fabric sale – I’m determined to finish up a pile of quilt tops that have been sitting around for a few years!

Started off the week with another walk – I miss them on the weekends!  I am still amazed that I don’t mind (much) waking up at 6 to get in some exercise. Busy day at work. This dress is another eBay score – I love easy dresses that don’t even require jewelry.

If I had known we would be taking head shots at work for some promotional materials, I probably wouldn’t have worn this outfit.  But oh well!  I’m trying to wear more simple outfits that I feel good in, and this was certainly comfortable, if not the most original. After work I had a conference call that ran until 11 PM – well past my bedtime!  But I got some good cross stitching time in while I listened.

rose gold layered necklace // Charming Charlie’s
floral skirt // thrifted
wedge sandals // Naturalizer
I slept through my alarm – oops! – but it was so nice to sleep in.  Another busy day at work – but a short week makes it seem better especially with a vacation at the end of it!  Ran more errands after work – usually I’m a couch potato after work but starting our vacation on Friday meant it all had to get done during the week.

Started the day with a walk and then a bummer – the car wouldn’t start.  But woohoo for short weeks!  Crammed as much as possible into the work day before closing at 3 and then set my out-of-office auto response and was out the door!  Since both hubby & I got out early, we splurged on a movie and saw How to Train Your Dragon 2 – really good!

Happy Independence Day!  Our vacation officially started with a road trip to Auburn to see my parents.  Everything a summer holiday should be: fresh peach daiquiris, browsing a book store and renting a movie (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty – good stuff!), corn hole in the back yard, dinner on the grill… and a firework show in the neighborhood.

Beach day!  Started off with an early morning walk, then leisurely alternating from beach to condo to beach again.  Topped it off with burgers on the grill and a movie… perfect!

Another beach day… floating on inner tubes is the best kind of Monday morning!  I knew all that time in the water would lead to sun burn if I wasn’t careful, so we spent the afternoon hanging out on the porch.  It was so nice to have some uninterrupted reading time and the beach in the background.  Kebabs for dinner… food just tastes so much better at the beach, I can’t help but comment on every meal!

Somehow it was already our last full day… so I slept in instead of walking, spent another morning on the beach and in the water, and treated myself to a New Orleans sno ball mid-afternoon.  We all went for a sunset dolphin cruise and saw a small pod following the shrimping boats.  The sunset was beautiful and we got back quite late.  It’s always a good idea to show up hungry for dinner at Cobalt, yum!  Not so fun… packing up when we got home and getting ready to leave the next day.

One last early morning walk to say goodbye to the beach, and then we were off.  We stopped in Montgomery for lunch at Dreamland BBQ and checked out the Riverfront since we were already downtown.  Eight hours isn’t unmanageable, but we sure were glad to finally arrive home to see the cats.

Back to the real world! Even though I only had a two-day work week to look forward to, it was a tough transition from beach life!

TGIF! Still dealing with car troubles (talk about a rude awakening… definitely back to real life after our vacay!) so we just had the one car.  I have Friday afternoons off, so that meant running errands and laundry and then heading back to the office when hubby’s work day was over.  Ah well, I suppose juggling with one car isn’t the worst problem in the world. We kicked off the weekend with happy hour at Cool Springs Brewery with some live music, and ended the night with a movie on the couch (Horrible Bosses – don’t really recommend, although I confess that after a couple more glasses of wine I wasn’t paying much attention!)

Lots of errands to run in the morning, but with that out of the way I had some time to hang out with my sewing machine.  But the big news is that we finally found a coffee table, woohoo!  (If you’re local, Classy Cat Consignment is our favorite place to find furniture!)
