I’m super excited to join in on Freshly Pieced‘s Fair Isle Sew-Along! I love the pattern but it’s a bit intimidating and bigger than what I usually make… which is why I jumped at the chance to make it along with lots of others for tips and motivation. Each week will tackle one row of the quilt, and in eight weeks I should have a completed quilt (cross your fingers, knock on wood, pinky swear, etc.) … here we go!
Week Five: Reindeer blocks
I finally finished up the reindeer blocks! I almost didn’t think I’d make it. I like these little guys, but I had to rip out quite a few seams and STILL wound up with 2 humpbacked reindeer… oops! I only noticed after ironing, trimming, and taking pics… so I’ve decided that they add “character” and didn’t fix them.
Here are a few progress pics:
Podcasts and chocolate got me through!
Tali wants to be a reindeer too!
I’m actually glad I got a little taste of pixelated blocks… they’re my favorite part of the whole quilt but it definitely convinced me NOT to attempt an entire pixelated quilt… not worth it! Too many seams and pins and possibility for mistakes (obviously).
Week 6 starts today – the very last row of pink checkerboard. I got a head start, so hopefully I should have it ready in a week. Stay tuned for another update next week!
If you missed any of the previous weeks, here are the blocks done so far:
Awesome!
