High Five for Friday!

Happy Black Friday! We’ve spent the week with family and I’ve been thinking a lot about what I’m grateful for these days. So in the spirit of Thanksgiving this week’s High Five for Friday is a bit different… five things I’m grateful and thankful for in my life… not just the three big ones (family, friends & health) but the little things that make life fun.
Next week we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled highlights.

1 – Thanksgiving. I love a holiday that’s just about gathering together… and eating lots of food. I’m so, so thankful that I have a loving husband and family, and it’s always a joy to spend holidays with them. My parents’s wedding anniversary is also on Thanksgiving, so it’s always felt like an extra-special holiday to my family. They’re at the beach right now, but I can’t wait to see them again for the next big holiday… Christmas!
2 – Hobbies. I was going to say books… because reading has brought me so much joy and exploration over the years… and then I was going to say sewing because it has also brought the same things to my life. And then I started thinking that I could say the same for my other hobbies… cross stitching, doodling, crafting, writing this blog. I’m always happiest when I have some kind of creative project going on that stretches my skills and ends with something tangible.
3 – Cats. These little fur balls are part of the family, and their constant antics are the highlight of most days that would otherwise consist of eat, work, eat, sleep, repeat. I can’t imagine coming home to a quiet apartment without the cats scampering around and getting into trouble. Cora and Tali really do make life a lot more fun.
4 – Nashville. I’ve loved different things about every place I’ve lived… the security of my childhood in Alabama, the friends and family that were close by during my high school, college, and teaching years in Mississippi, the new scenery and adventures in San Francisco, and now the fun, creative community where we find ourselves living. I’m so thankful that we’ve had a smooth transition into our new life… moving is always stressful and full of the unknown, but it didn’t take long at all to realize we made a great decision to move here.
5 – Twinkly Lights. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I love the twinkly lights we hung up on our porch outside. I can get so focused on the things I want for the future… a house of our own, career advancement, starting a family… but it’s really the little things like twinkly lights that remind me to keep enjoying exactly where I am right now.

I’m linking up with Lauren Elizabeth for H54F!
