While my parents visited last weekend, we stopped by the James K. Polk home on our way to visit family in the area. I honestly barely remembered anything about the 11th president from history class, but we enjoyed a quick guided tour of his parents’ house, kitchen, and gardens. It was a fun stop in downtown Columbia, and since we happened to go on Presidents’ Day weekend, the price was half off…. bonus!
You know what time it is… time for a photo dump!
Inside the main house was a museum room, gift shop, and a short video.
The guided tour through the Polks’ home was interesting, especially with all the original furniture and portraits.
The outside kitchen also led to the gardens.
I loved the courtyard and gardens best, even if the fountain was frozen and this time of year probably isn’t the greenest.
Sam spotted the calico cat, of course.
(Mama’s favorite statue!)
To wrap up our Valentine’s Day, we got to see some of my mom’s side of the family who have a farm nearby, then a double date for dinner at Puckett’s Boat House.
More city sights coming soon as we explore the Nashville area!
