This weekend we joined my parents for a quick overnight trip to visit some family friends at Smith Lake. The water was beautiful and we had a full day catching up, floating in the water, tubing on the boat, and enjoying the company. You know it’s a sign of a good day when you have about two pictures at the end of it!
We spent the night at a nearby inn, which was pretty empty… but we had the restaurant – and visiting Italian pianist – to ourselves!
Before we left the next day we checked out Natural Bridge (both the name of the attraction and the name of the town) about 30 minutes down the road. The Natural Bridge Park is home to the longest natural bridge east of the Rockies – over 120 feet long, amidst natural springs and petrified wood. It was pretty stunning to stumble across such a sight in the middle of nowhere (per Wikipedia, Natural Springs, AL: population 28!).
We packed a lot into 24 hours, and it was the perfect getaway in the middle of summer. It really reminds me of how glad I am to be living close to family again!
More city sights coming soon!
