Nashville City Sights: Cheekwood Botanical Gardens

Most of the long weekend was spent getting ready for our trip to Toronto (this week!), but we still wanted to do something fun on our “staycation.” Cheekwood Botanical Gardens has been on the list ever since we moved here, so it seemed like the perfect time to check it out. It was probably the hottest day of the year so far, and in between seasons so not much was actually blooming, but it was still a gorgeous day. I can’t wait to go back again when the weather’s not quite so hot.

We ate lunch at The Pineapple Room (yum! Lots of fresh veggies, which you hardly ever see on a menu) and explored all the gardens for a couple hours. When we needed a break from the heat, there was the Frist Learning Center and the Museum of Art. The museum is in the original mansion, with a sculpture exhibit in addition to the family’s collections, and the Frist Learning Center is the old carriage house with an art installation by Soo Sunny Park.I loved how the human landscape sculptures on the grounds were incorporated into the gardens. The art was a surprising bonus, when all I expected were the outdoor gardens – both exhibits it were really cool (and a welcome respite from the heat!).
Enough talk, here’s the photo dump!
