Time for an update on our new house journey…
Things started speeding up this month, but we still have a ways to go.
There were two pretty major updates this month:
(1) The road that connects downtown Franklin to our neighborhood was completed, woohoo! It adds about 10 minutes to my current commute, which isn’t bad at all, and best of all I won’t need to get on the highway.
(2) The completion goal has been delayed until late November/early December. That’s actually closer to the original timeline, so one more month is not a big deal BUT we will have to extend our lease for another month, which we were hoping to avoid. Ah well, everyone told us to expect delays, and they were right! I had to shift my thinking from “First Thanksgiving in the new house!” to “First Christmas in the new house!”
We are still visiting about once a week to check on the progress. The foundation has been poured, studs are up, and they will be working on the roof and bricks soon. The neighborhood is also starting to come together, and even though the green space behind our house is still looking pretty barren, landscaping is starting to pop up. Hopefully it will look like more than a field of rubble soon. Here are some progress pics:
In October, we’re looking forward to the frame review meeting, which is the last chance to go over everything with the builders before drywall goes up. We should also have a better idea of the closing date by the end of the month. I’ve started getting estimates from movers, since we have a tricky exterior staircase that’s best left to the professionals. I’m excited that we’re getting closer to moving in!
