In the last couple months, the cats have transitioned from indoor-only to indoor/outdoor and it has improved all of our lives. The cats are happier, sleepier, and have both lost weight now that they can soak up the sun during the day and prowl all night.
The best part in my opinion? Both litter boxes have been removed from the house!
Cora stopped using the box immediately, but we knew Tali would take a bit longer to give up the habit. We removed one litter box from the laundry room about a month after the cats started going outside – there’s nothing quite like bending down to do the laundry and catching a whiff of litter box while nauseous from the first trimester of pregnancy – and since hubby is in charge of the box cleaning, we were both thrilled. A couple weeks hubby noticed that the second box hadn’t been used in several days, so we are officially litter-free now!
Two years ago in June 2014 I wrote a similar post about moving the litter box out of the apartment and onto the porch… I guess June is the month of litter migration!

The cats have adapted to every place we’ve moved to, from MS to CA to TN, but I think our new house is the happiest they’ve been yet… and that makes me happy too, of course!
