Finally, finally! This little baby quilt has taken quite a while to make its way from start to finish, and then the photos sat on my computer for a few weeks, but here we are: finished!
Firefly Baby Quilt
Finished size: 48 x 48
As with everything else lately, I don’t have much time to spare, so I’ll keep it brief. In fact, I won’t even come up with new words since I already wrote about the completed top a few months ago:
I love the Wee Wander fabric line by Sarah Jane Studios, and this free pattern was the perfect way to showcase the panel in the center and sweet details like fireflies in mason jars and galloping horses in the patchwork. I added two other prints in the patchwork to bring in some more color (and unicorns) – Cotton + Steel basics in Sprinkles Alexia Turquoise and Heather Ross Far Far Away Unicorns in Purple. I really like this saturated color palette and simple patchwork. This little quilt is destined to hang above the crib and since we’ll probably keep everything in the master bedroom for a while, it will fit in nicely with the little patchwork quilt hanging above our bed already.
I sent this off to Studio V Quilting and absolutely love how the stars and loops quilting in a light grey thread looks. I hit a snafu with the binding when my old machine quit on me, but one of my guild friends had pity on me and finished the binding (in her spare time.. during a move!). What would I do without quilty friends?!
We did indeed hang this little quilt in the baby’s space, although it went above the changing table instead of the crib. I love waking up to see it every morning (and throughout the night, ha!). It fills up the big blank wall and echoes the patchwork quilt hung above our bed on the opposite wall. At 5 weeks, Amelia has just started noticing it during diaper changes, and pointing out the colors and animals is one of those moments I always envisioned when I looked forward to being a mother.
Anyhoo, here’s a quick recap of progress pics:
I loved this quilt from start to finish and as cheesy as it sounds, I’ll always remember the time I spent making it, wondering about the baby I had yet to meet… and the friends who helped make it happen!
I’m linking up to Crazy Mom Quilts for Finish Friday 🙂
