Another weekly update on my current Works in Progress! I’m out of town this week so I don’t have much to show, but last week I hosted another Sew Day with my quilty friend, so I have a little bit to share.
Paint Chip Challenge Mini Quilt
This is the first Sew Day since Amelia started napping in her new room, so I moved my machine and sewing paraphernalia out of the guest room closet and into the dining room. It was nice to be closer to the snacks!
It feels like I’m making slow progress on this little mini, but I’m taking my time since I’m also learning a new skill: reverse applique! (I’m using Anna Maria Horner’s Folk Flower block). I fussy cut all the flowers and leaves that will go underneath the holes cut from the background fabric, which always takes longer than I think it will.
I’m nervous about attempting reverse applique for the first time, so I tested out a practice block. After way over-pinning and figuring out the blanket stitch on my machine, I got the hang of it. I need to make sure I go slow and press well beforehand, to ensure that the curves stay round.
Now onto the actual blocks! I’m making four, and plan to set them on point and making a wall hanging. I’m excited about this one! Hopefully I can knock out more blocks at the next Friday Night Sew in another week.
And that’s about it!
